Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What age groups do you teach?

A: I specialize in teaching babies, toddlers and young children, generally most of my student’s age’s range from 2 years old to 13 years old. I can start swimming lessons with infants as early as 2 months old. My methods are adaptable for all age groups, ensuring that every student receives personalized attention and instruction based on their unique needs.

Q: What is the “Roll Over Method”?

A: The “Roll Over Method” is a foundational technique that babies as young as 2 months old can learn. I teach this method to children to learn essential water safety skills. It focuses on teaching kids to roll over in the water, which promotes safety, awareness and confidence as they begin their swimming journey.

Q: How many students are there in each class?

A: I offer both private and semi-private lessons. Semi-private lessons are reserved for siblings only. In private lessons, students receive one-on-one instruction for tailored guidance.

Semi-private lessons are a unique and effective way to learn, designed for two students working together. In this format each student receives approximately 5 minutes of focused, personalized instruction before I switch to the other student. This method ensures that both students get equal time and attention, allowing me to tailor my teaching to each student’s individual needs, strengths and areas for growth. By working side by side, students can also benefit from each other’s experiences, making the lessons more engaging and collaborative. Overall, this approach fosters a productive and supportive learning environment.

Q: How long are your lessons?

A: Each of my lessons is 30 minutes long. This time allows for an effective and focused session where students can receive personalized instruction tailored to their needs. The 30 minutes will be divided, with 15 minutes dedicated to each student in a semi-private format, they get ample attention and guidance, helping them to engage fully and make the most of their learning experience.

Q: My child is a young toddler and might cry during the first few lessons. How will you handle this?

A: Its completely normal for young children and toddlers to feel a bit hesitant or upset during their first few lessons. Many little ones cry initially as they adjust to a new environment and routine. To help them settle in and focus on learning, its best for parents to be “out of sight” during the sessions. Once they see that you’re not nearby, children often find it easier to engage with me and listen more attentively. I create a warm and encouraging atmosphere to help them feel comfortable and safe. Rest assured, I’m dedicated to making their experience enjoyable and rewarding, and I’ll communicate to you about their progress!

Q: Are your lessons suitable for children who have never swum before?

A: Absolutely! My lessons are specifically designed for beginners, including children who have never been in the water or have limited water exposure. I adapt my teaching methods to suit each child’s comfort level and abilities, ensuring a positive learning experience.

Q: What should my child wear to the lessons?

A: I recommend children wear comfortable swimsuits. If your child has long hair, please secure their hair so that it is out of their face when they are swimming. Braids or hair ties work great, and a swim cap can be used if necessary. If your child does feel cold during there lesson they can wear a wetsuit. I prefer that all children learn to swim without googles. Once they can “roll over” on their own and are water safe they may choose to wear googles while swimming.

Q: Why should my child learn to swim without googles or swimming aids?

It’s essential for children to learn to swim without googles or swimming aids as this prepares them for real-life situations. If a child accidentally falls into a pool, they will not have the benefit of googles or aids to help them. By teaching them to swim without these tools, I instill confidence and the ability to navigate the water using their natural instincts. This foundational skill ensures they remain calm and composed in unexpected situations, ultimately enhancing their safety.

Learning to swim without aids encourages a strong understanding of body positioning and breath control, which are critical for survival. As they develop these core skills, children become more resilient and comfortable in the water, fostering a lifelong appreciation for swimming and water safety.

While the exact pool location may vary from time to time, rest assured that all lessons will always take place in North Irvine. I’ll keep you updated with the specific pool details in advance, so you’ll know exactly where to go for each lesson.
